Foundation targets men’s health gap with World Diabetes Day outreach in Osun

On Friday, November 14, 2025, World Diabetes Day, the Femi Olutoye Foundation (FOF) took deliberate and bold action against one of Nigeria’s most silent killers by hosting a men-focused diabetes outreach at Olona Palace, Ada, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State.

The event, strategically timed to also echo the theme of the upcoming International Men’s Day, deliberately targeted Nigerian men, a group notorious for avoiding hospitals, ignoring early symptoms and dying silently from preventable complications of diabetes and hypertension.

A significant number of men turned out , many of them farmers, artisans and traders who had never checked their blood sugar in their lives. They received: free diabetes screening, one-on-one health education on diet, exercise and warning signs, free medications for those already living with diabetes, iImmediate referrals for newly diagnosed cases needing specialist care.

His Royal Majesty expressed deep appreciation to the Femi Olutoye Foundation for the remarkable work they are doing in the community.

“the outreach provided hope, knowledge, and access to essential medical screenings that many residents would not have received otherwise” His Royal Majesty shared

The Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation, Femi Olutoye, is one very passionate about service to humanity especially through the health sector.

In 2020, Femi Olutoye while pursuing his PhD in China, watched the world struggle with COVID-19 and chose to pause his studies, he began volunteering, supporting hospitals, and caring for vulnerable people. That decision changed everything.

“In 2021 I registered as a nurse in New Zealand to learn from one of the world’s most equitable healthcare systems. By 2024 the call to serve Nigeria’s most neglected communities became too loud to ignore, so I established the Femi Olutoye Foundation” he shared.

In 2025 His Majesty King Charles III honoured Femi Olutoye with the Coronation Medal from the Government of Canada in recognition of his work.

Femi shares: “Today we saw the proof, when you bring quality healthcare to where men are comfortable, they will come. They will test. They will listen. And they will live longer to take care of their families.”

The outreach perfectly embodied the Foundation’s acronym FEMI, Friendliness, Equity, Mission-iven, Innovation, and directly contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (Good Health & Well-Being) and (Gender Equality) by closing the glaring gender gap in preventive healthcare.

As Nigeria battles a diabetes epidemic that now affects a large number of adults, initiatives like this prove that solutions exist when courageous organisations and leaders choose to meet people where they are.

The Femi Olutoye Foundation remains committed to Transforming Lives and Building Healthier Communities, one community, one man, one life-saving test at a time.
